The short version: your library stays on your device. The tracker needs no account and no server. There is now an optional community you can join — if you join it, the things your profile shows are stored on a server: your handle, your comments, your ratings and reactions, how much you have watched in total, and which shows and films you watch. Your episode-by-episode watch history, with its dates, is never sent.
Your library — shows, movies, watch history, ratings, emotions, comments, lists, profile details and photos — is stored in a local database on your phone. That database is the app's only source of truth. It is never uploaded anywhere, and it is not backed up to us: the optional iCloud backup goes to your own iCloud account, which we cannot read. There is no advertising, and if you have not joined the community there are no analytics either.
When you join the community, and only then, the app turns on anonymous usage analytics (Google Firebase Analytics). Every automatic collection setting Firebase offers ships switched off; joining is the single thing that enables it. If you never join, no analytics event is ever recorded.
We record the shape of what you do, never the content of it. That means which control
you tapped, which screen you opened and how many items were involved — and never a show or film title, an
episode, an identifier, a handle, a rating, or anything you typed. Screens are recorded by their pattern,
so a visit to a show page is logged as show/[id] and never as the show you were looking at.
This is deliberate: a per-title event stream would rebuild at Google exactly the watch history the rest of
this policy keeps on your phone.
Analytics stops when you leave the community.
OpenTV can connect to a community where people comment on episodes, rate them, follow each other and publish lists. Joining is entirely optional. If you never join, the app never contacts our server at all, and it works exactly as described above — every screen, every statistic, every feature of the tracker.
If you do join — by signing in with Apple or Google, or by registering an email address and password — the following is stored on our server:
Ratings, emotions and character votes name the episode they are about. A rating is meaningless without knowing what was rated, so these records carry the show, the season and the episode number — and by posting one you are saying, publicly, that you watched it. They are the only per-episode records that ever reach our server, they exist only for episodes you deliberately rated or reacted to, and they carry no date. That is different in kind from your watch history, which is described below and is never sent.
If you imported a TV Time export, the app can also offer to bring your old TV Time comments across, and to reconnect you with the friends you had there. Both are offered and neither happens by itself. The reconnection sends only the numeric TV Time friend identifiers that were already inside your own export, so people who held the matching identifier can be matched with you.
A profile is meant to be looked at, so joining publishes what a profile shows: your handle and display name, your comments and ratings, your lists, the total number of episodes you have watched and the total time that comes to, and which shows and films are in your library — including which of them you have marked as favourites. Those totals and titles are recomputed on your phone and replace what is on the server, so removing a show from your library removes it from your profile.
What is never sent to our server, whether or not you join: your episode-by-episode watch history — which episode you watched, on which date, in which order, how many times; the TV Time export file itself; the TV Time email address or password; your location; your contacts. The server has no table for a watched episode, and that is a design decision rather than an omission. The distinction is deliberate: a total says how much you watch, a history says when you were home, and only the first is published. If the server disappeared tomorrow you would keep your complete history and the app would still work.
If you never join the community, nothing at all leaves your phone except requests to TheTVDB and TMDB for artwork and show information.
These are the only companies that process anything, and only for people who joined:
The app fetches show and movie information and artwork from TheTVDB and The Movie Database (TMDB). These requests contain only the title or id being looked up — never your identity and never your library. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
If you have joined the community, the app also talks to the OpenTV community server described above. If you have not, it does not.
When you import a TV Time GDPR export, the file is read and processed entirely on your device. During import the app may download images referenced inside your export (your avatar, cover and comment photos) from TV Time's servers, saving them locally so they survive TV Time's shutdown.
You can export your complete library at any time from Settings — as a TV Time-format ZIP or a raw JSON backup — and you can erase everything with one tap. Deleting the app deletes all local data with it.

The tracker collects no personal information from anyone, including children. The community contains content written by other people and is not intended for children under 13; you must be at least 13 to join it.
